Wake Up Tri-Counties Katie Laleman from the Henry County Farm Bureau

The Henry County Farm Bureau will soon announce winners of Farm Bureau Scholarships. Henry County Farm Bureau's Katie Laleman joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about Scholarships and encourage students to continue looking into Farm Bureau scholarships. Among those that the Farm Bureau is hoping to attract interest for is a Veterinary Scholarship, one encouraging people to enter the veterinary field, especially those interested in becoming a large animal Veterinarians. Katie also talked about upcoming events with the Farm Bureau including the Henry County Farm Bureau Golf Funday happening in August.

The Mayor of Kewanee, Gary Moore, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Tuesday to talk about Monday's Kewanee City Council Meeting. The Mayor discussed issues related to Mill Creek and a potentially expensive fix of compliance with EPA standards related to Chloride Volumes. The Mayor says that the State of Illinois insists that Mill Creek is a navigable waterway and because of that, EPA standards require the City of Kewanee to enact potentially expensive fixes to repair the issue. That said, the Mayor tells WKEI that the plan is to pursue grants and other state funding to alleviate some of the cost from this fix. The Mayor also talked about several nuisance properties that are now set to be torn down.

Samantha Rux from OSF Healthcare joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the first patient to undergo Proton Therapy at the OSF Cancer Institute in Peoria. The first patient was a man from Princeton who traveled to Peoria to undergo this extraordinary new treatment that more directly attacks cancer cells with proton therapy as a opposed to traditional radiation which can't specifically target cancer cells. This innovation can't treat all cancers but it is proving to be innovative and effective on most types of cancer. Samantha Rux talked about Proton Therapy on Wake Up Tri-Counties.
